Code Testing Extensions

This reference-only catalog lists bundled guidance for the code-testing pipeline. Read the matching file directly; do not invoke this catalog as a skill. Resource paths are relative to this catalog, not the project workspace.

Usage

Read the appropriate base extension before writing test code. Load an <language>-examples.md file only when the repository has no representative tests and the base extension does not resolve the needed pattern. Do not load end-to-end examples for a focused request with established local conventions.

dotnet-breaking-changes

Use before changing .NET/C code whose callers you do not control: a NuGet library, or a repo with PublicAPI.Shipped/Unshipped.txt, ApiCompat, multiple TargetFrameworks, InternalsVisibleTo, or generated (.g.cs) partials. Green builds miss silent breaks from optional parameters, parameter names, sealing, const values, nullability, and if. USE FOR: "without breaking existing callers"; adding a public method, overload, optional parameter, or interface member to a shipped library; renaming a public m

filter-syntax

Reference-only filter syntax for VSTest and MTP with MSTest, NUnit, xUnit v3, and TUnit. Load only after the platform/framework is known and a consumer needs to create or translate a filter. Do not load for unfiltered runs or platform detection. Used by run-tests and mtp-hot-reload; never invoke directly.

optimizing-ef-core-queries

Review and optimize application data access that uses Entity Framework Core (EF Core). Use for EF Core performance and correctness reviews of services, repositories, imports, and background jobs: slow or memory-heavy queries, excessive round-trips, hidden SaveChanges, premature materialization, dynamic query construction, result-graph tracking, bulk writes, DbContext lifetime or overlapping operations, search semantics, paging, raw SQL, and model/index coverage. Use whether or not EF Core owns t

run-tests

ALWAYS USE before running .NET tests or answering with a test command or flags. Trigger on "run the tests", "exact dotnet test command", one test/class/category/trait/target framework, combined filters, --filter-query, --no-build, --diag, diagnostic logs, TRX, coverage collection, crash/hang dumps, filter errors, or unrecognized options. Chooses repository-compatible classic, VSTest, bridged MTP, or native MTP syntax for MSTest/xUnit/NUnit/TUnit. DO NOT USE for platform identification alone (pla
